Fambily Hall
Alexandra’s past commissions have been wide and diverse and this shows in her portfolio.
Alexandra graduated from the University of Westminster in 1997 with a 2:1 in Illustration. In 1998 she set up her business with a loan from the Prince’s Youth Business Trust.
Her final year exhibition at the TUC building in Central London was well received. As a student she had work published in various student magazines and won Second prize in a University College London Postgraduate Poster Competition, explaining the genetics of heart disease.
Alex then exhibited and sold paintings in galleries in Radlett, Middlesex and Huntingdon and exhibited four paintings as part of a travelling exhibition in conjunction with The City Gallery in Leicester. She has also displayed paintings at and sold work to Snibston Discovery Park and Museum in Leicestershire.
She has also designed and painted a Christmas card for The Spinal Injuries Association, which was on sale at various outlets and by mail order. The following year she designed and painted a Christmas card for the Riding for the Disabled Association.
In 1999, Alex was Artist in Residence at Weston Park, a stately home in Shropshire. This involved producing general artwork for the house including the designing and drawing of a leaflet for the general public which contained a highly detailed map and several small icons. Also the design of a horse character to represent The Stables Restaurant and the design of a wizard for the ‘Wizard Walk’ and drawings of six of the follies situated in the grounds for a map.
Alex’s commissions remained varied and included painting four large murals (average of 3m x 4m) in a history corridor in a primary school, on the subject of four eras of local history and designing and drawing a large poster including a farm landscape and detailed drawings of various crops, farm machinery and breeds of animals. Alex also drew a series of places of local interest to illustrate a map for walks throughout south Shropshire.
Alex designed some animal characters to promote school dinners in Staffordshire, later known as ‘The Lunch Bunch’. The brief included situating the animals in a variety of poses and landscapes, for example, pictures of ants holding a variety of cutlery and plate waste to show the children which bin or bowl to put what in. All the primary schools in the catchment area had large posters, stickers, menus etc. detailing the Lunch Bunch. The characters also featured on the side of delivery lorries and have been made up into costumes to visit the schools. Alex later sold the copyright and the drawing of the characters has been taken over by a design company.
Alex has drawn covers for the New Law Journal; a prestigious magazine for lawyers about law and the legal process. Alex has also designed a logo for a Farm Shop which they have reproduced on roadside hoardings, on stickers, labels, staff uniforms etc. and on the company website and on the sides of their delivery vans. She has also exhibited and sold work as part of an ‘art in the workplace’ scheme set up in various government buildings. Recently, Alex has exhibited a painting at the Museum of Modern Art Wales.
Alex continues to accept commissions from both editorial and private clients.
